Extension to Eileanan, Ardfern

Tuesday, 20th March 2012

We have recently designed a small-scale extension to a private house in Ardfern, a remote village which lies 14 miles north of Lochgilphead and sits on the northwestern shore of Loch Craignish, a beautiful sheltered sea loch which is home to several islands.

The new single storey extension (which adds a new dining room connecting the existing kitchen and living room) pivots towards the south west, maximising the stunning views out to the loch and taking advantage of the afternoon sunshine.  The roof of the new dining room then bridges across externally to link the new entrance hall and boot room, providing additional shelter.

Ther vertical Siberian larch cladding and floor to ceiling glazing sets the new spaces apart from the existing rendered walls, creating clean, crisp lines.

The extension is currently out to tender and is hoped to start on site in early summer 2012.
